Muhammad Yunus, the interim chief adviser to the government in Bangladesh, has assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the safety and security of Hindus and other minorities in the country.

This assurance came during their first phone conversation since Yunus took on his current role following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.

Prime Minister Modi expressed India's commitment to a democratic, stable, and progressive Bangladesh through a post on X. Yunus, in turn, promised to safeguard the minority communities.

Modi had highlighted concerns about the security of minorities in Bangladesh during his Independence Day speech. He stressed the importance of safety for Hindus and minorities, and India's desire for a peaceful and prosperous neighboring country.
