Aldi UK to End Click and Collect Service Amid Industry Shifts
Aldi UK, a major British supermarket, will terminate its click and collect service on August 18. Initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the service was available in 174 out of 1,020 stores. Unlike its competitors, Aldi offers no home delivery service. The grocery market has shifted post-pandemic.
Aldi UK, Britain's fourth largest supermarket group, is set to discontinue its click and collect service, introduced at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, on August 18. This decision marks a significant shift for the retailer.
The click and collect service, which began in September 2020, was a direct response to the surge in online grocery shopping during government-mandated lockdowns. Currently, only 174 of Aldi's 1,020 UK stores offer this service.
Unlike its rivals—such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons—Aldi does not provide a home delivery option. The supermarket's market share has slightly decreased, with industry data indicating a drop to 10% in recent months. The Grocer first reported the news of Aldi ending its click and collect service.
