South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday proposed establishing a working-level consultative body with North Korea to discuss ways to ease tensions and resume economic cooperation.

In his National Liberation Day speech, marking the 79th anniversary of Korea's independence from Japanese colonial rule, Yoon laid out his vision for unification of the Korean peninsula. He stated that he was prepared to begin political and economic cooperation if North Korea takes a step towards denuclearization.

Yoon's call for collaboration came as he emphasized the potential benefits of mutual cooperation for both nations, highlighting the importance of peace and stability in the region.
