In a significant development on Wednesday, the Union government announced the curtailment of NSG Director General Nalin Prabhat's tenure. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) endorsed a Ministry of Home Affairs proposal to reassign Prabhat to the AGMUT cadre.

The ACC's directive states that the 1992-batch IPS officer will be deputed from the Andhra Pradesh cadre to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for an initial period of three years from his joining date, in relaxation of usual inter-cadre deputation rules.

While the exact nature of his new assignment remains unspecified, it is anticipated that Prabhat may soon be entrusted with a new role.
