New Delhi - The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) announced on Wednesday the appointment of Rahul Navin as the full-time director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). A veteran in international taxation, Navin takes over from Sanjay Kumar Mishra whose term ended in mid-September last year.
Navin, belonging to the 1993 batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having joined the ED in November 2019 as a Special Director. His expertise has been pivotal in several high-profile arrests, including those of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in separate money laundering cases.
The ED functions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), and also incorporates civil provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Navin's appointment is for a period of two years from the date of assumption or until further orders, whichever comes first.
