India's Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has signed a significant pact with Uzbekistan's Chamber of Accounts in Tashkent to elevate international cooperation in auditing.

The agreement was formalized by the supreme audit institutions of both nations to foster collaborative expertise and knowledge exchange in the field of auditing, according to a statement by the CAG.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is designed to create a platform for professional auditors from both countries to share experiences and enhance their capabilities in conducting comprehensive audits.

Girish Chandra Murmu, CAG of India, emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that collaborative efforts and knowledge sharing among SAIs can lead to the dissemination of best practices and innovative solutions, thereby forming a global network of auditing expertise. He further added that investing in capacity building will equip SAIs with the skills needed for auditing complex government programs effectively, contributing to more resilient and sustainable governance frameworks.

Adiz Muzaffarovich Boboyev, Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts, Republic of Uzbekistan, stressed the importance of the MoU in developing and strengthening their institution's professional capabilities and audit methodologies. He expressed optimism that this agreement would lead to greater accountability and improved governance.

Marking a significant milestone, the MoU underscores a shared commitment to excellence in auditing practices, promoting closer ties between the SAIs of India and Uzbekistan. During his visit to Tashkent, the CAG of India also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at his monument and visited the Lal Bahadur Shastri Center for Indian Culture.
