The brutal sexual assault and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor has ignited outrage across West Bengal, prompting the BJP to demand a CBI probe. Union Minister of State and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar cited injury marks on the victim, suggesting multiple assailants were involved. The woman's body was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital, with preliminary autopsy reports confirming sexual abuse.
Police have arrested one suspect, who allegedly had free access to the hospital's departments. Majumdar argued that a CBI investigation is necessary to uncover the full truth, as he was stopped by police while trying to visit the victim's residence, leading to a heated exchange.
The state BJP chief criticized the police for delayed action, suggesting that they initially attempted to label the case a suicide. Meanwhile, CPI(M) state Secretary Md Salim dismissed the police investigation as inadequate and doubted a CBI probe under the BJP-led government. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh called for an end to politicization, stressing that the Chief Minister has committed to seeking the death penalty for the accused.
