The Congress Party has unequivocally condemned the Supreme Court's implementation of the 'creamy layer' concept for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservations. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge insisted that the ruling undermines the core purpose of reservations—to dismantle the historically entrenched social injustices. In a bold declaration, Kharge stated, ''Till the time untouchability exists, reservation should be there and will be there. We will fight for it.''
Kharge pointed out the impracticality and insensitivity of this judicial decision, arguing that those from SC and ST backgrounds continue to face substantial discrimination, even when economically better off. He strongly believes that introducing a creamy layer would only benefit the privileged and perpetuate systemic biases against the underprivileged.
In response, Kharge called for collective action against the judgement and criticized the government's lack of legislative intervention to nullify the Supreme Court's decision. He also accused the BJP of undermining reservation policies and failing to address job vacancies in public sectors, which he argues disproportionately affect SC and ST communities.
