Delhi Police have arrested Nepal-based travel agent Sunil Thapa for allegedly arranging a fake Hong Kong visa on an Indian passport, officials announced on Thursday.
Thapa, 28, was apprehended in Nepal's Rupandehi district. The investigation began when Sabina Gurung, a Nepali national possessing a forged Indian passport, was detained at IGI Airport on August 5 after arriving from Hong Kong. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani said a case was registered for further investigation.
During interrogation, Gurung revealed her intent to seek better livelihood opportunities abroad, facilitated by her friend who suggested procuring an Indian passport through Thapa's services.
Thapa allegedly arranged the visa for Rs one lakh, enabling Gurung to travel on a work visa in December 2023. However, she was denied entry when attempting to re-enter Hong Kong due to the fake visa. A special team later apprehended Thapa in Nepal.
