NDA allies JD(U) and TDP voiced their support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha on Thursday, highlighting its intention to increase transparency within the Waqf Board. They dismissed any allegations of the Bill being anti-Muslim.
Janata Dal (United) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan' defended the legislation, stating, "Several members are making it sound as if the amendment in Waqf Board law is anti-Muslim. How is it anti-Muslim? This law is for the institution, to make it transparent."
The TDP echoed similar sentiments, with MP GM Harish Balayogi acknowledging the government's concerns and supporting the Bill's objective to protect donors' intentions and misuse of power. The Bill proposes significant changes, including renaming the Act and improving representation within Waqf boards.
