The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday urged the Centre to protect Hindus in violence-hit Bangladesh amid the ongoing unrest, and ensure that ''jihadis'' disguised as refugees do not enter India.

According to reports, at least 232 people have been killed in Bangladesh since violence erupted following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on Monday. The death toll has reached 560 since protests began in mid-July. Hasina has fled to Delhi's Hindon air base.

VHP representatives, including Madhya Bharat prant mantri Rajesh Jain, have appealed to the Centre to safeguard persecuted Hindus and prevent further violence. The group also expressed its readiness to aid security forces at the India-Bangladesh border.
