A special NIA court has issued rigorous imprisonment sentences to two men for circulating fake Indian currency notes.

On Tuesday, Asim Sarkar from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, received a 7-year sentence, while Aladu from Malda, West Bengal, was sentenced to five years. A fine of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively, was also imposed, with additional jail time mandated for non-payment.

Both were found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Authorities had seized 99 fake Rs 2,000 notes and two Rs 500 notes worth Rs 1,99,000 from Sarkar in 2019. Further investigations led to the arrests of Aladu and Faijul Sk, with Faijul already serving a 5-year term. The trial against another accused, Abdul Rahim, continues.
