The Manipur government on Tuesday enforced a night curfew in Pherzawl and parts of Jiribam district to address illegal immigration from Bangladesh, according to officials.
Restrictions in Pherzawl district will be relaxed from 8 am to 4 pm, while in Jiribam, areas under the Jiribam Municipal Council and Borobekra subdivision will observe relaxation from 9 am to 3 pm. This directive comes from the district magistrates' offices, which have also prohibited gatherings of five or more persons, movements outside residences, and carrying objects that could be used offensively.
Both Jiribam and Pherzawl districts share a border with Assam's Cachar district, adjacent to Bangladesh. Security forces are tasked with stringent enforcement of the curfew to maintain law and order. Exemptions apply to government agencies and essential services.
