Iran and Russia Strengthen Strategic Ties Amid Middle East Tensions
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed a commitment to deepen ties with Russia, viewing the latter as a strategic partner. This comes as Russia condemns the assassination of Palestinian leader Ismail Haniyeh. Tehran continues to defend Hamas and Hezbollah while accusing Israel of violating international laws.
On Monday, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian voiced a strong commitment to deepening ties with Russia, describing the nation as a strategic partner. This declaration was made during a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, the secretary of Russia's security council, shortly after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, as reported by Iranian state media.
Pezeshkian commended Russia for its support during challenging times, stating that shared views between the two countries on promoting a multipolar world would lead to greater global security. Russia recently condemned Haniyeh's assassination and urged all involved parties to avoid actions that could further destabilize the Middle East.
Shoigu, previously Russia's defense minister, also met with key Iranian security officials, including Rear Admiral Ali Akbar Ahmadian. The discussions highlighted the strong bilateral relationship, particularly in the context of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Meanwhile, U.S. officials have expressed doubt over Russia's potential role in easing tensions in the region.
