Representing Kanyakumari, Vasanth called for additional funds for protective measures along the vulnerable coastline to combat sea erosion. He suggested the introduction of sea ambulances and speed recovery boats to safeguard the fishing community.
Vasanth also emphasized the need for a monthly pension scheme for fishermen aged 60 and above, noting that many lack essential social security benefits. Indian Union Muslim League MP ET Mohammed Basheer urged the government to resist international pressure to reduce subsidies to Indian fishermen.
