Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi concluded a rare visit to Iran on Sunday, urging an end to escalating violence and calling for peace, security, and stability in the region.

Safadi's visit comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States and its allies, including France, Britain, Italy, and Egypt, aimed at preventing further escalation following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian labeled the assassination a 'major mistake by the Zionist regime (Israel) that will not go unanswered,' according to Iranian state TV.

The visit also aimed to improve relations between Iran and Jordan, strained recently by accusations against pro-Iranian militias in Syria and tensions over Iran's first direct attack on Israel. 'My visit to Iran is to consult on the serious escalation in the region and to engage in a frank and clear discussion about overcoming our differences,' Safadi said during a press conference with his Iranian counterpart.

Safadi reiterated Jordan's proactive stance in defending Palestinian rights and condemning Israeli actions, calling the assassination of Haniyeh a 'heinous crime and an escalatory step.' He demanded effective measures to halt Israeli aggression and prevent further violence in the region. Regional tensions have heightened following the assassinations, with both Hamas and Iran accusing Israel and pledging retaliation.
