A police constable has been accused of raping a woman from a different community and attempting to forcibly convert her religion, officials confirmed on Sunday. The accused, Chand Khan alias Raj, also allegedly extorted money from the woman by making a video of the act and threatening to make it viral if she did not comply.
Following instructions from the Pilibhit superintendent of police, a case has been registered against the constable and his wife, Gulshan Ara alias Jeva, under the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, among other relevant sections, according to Naresh Tyagi, the SHO of Kotwali police station.
The victim, a resident of the locality, alleged that she met the constable two years ago at a coaching center where he initially saved her from being molested. He then introduced himself as 'Raj' and proposed marriage. Subsequently, he took her to his residence, gave her intoxicants, and raped her while making a video. She was also allegedly forced to abort her pregnancy twice. The victim later discovered his real name and marital status. The constable then began pressuring her to convert religions, involving a cleric on two occasions. His wife also played a role in the coercion efforts, police said.
