Elderly Woman Allegedly Attacked in Family Dispute in Diu

A 70-year-old woman was allegedly beaten by her relatives in Diu, Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. CCTV footage surfaced online, prompting police to register a non-cognizable offence under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The victim, Sonaben Bhagwan, suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized.

A disturbing family dispute incident in Diu has come to light where a 70-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her relatives, the local police said on Saturday.

The incident, captured on CCTV earlier this week, shows two men attacking the elderly woman with sticks and slaps in Bucharwada village on July 31. The violent footage soon went viral on social media.

The victim, Sonaben Bhagwan, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for immediate treatment. Superintendent of Police, Diu, Piyush Fulzele, stated that a non-cognizable offence under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita has been registered, and further action will depend upon court approval.
