China Rebukes Japan Over 'Provocative' Remarks: Diplomatic Tensions Escalate

An official at China's foreign ministry has raised diplomatic concerns with Japan over negative remarks made during a recent U.S.-Japan meeting, the ministry announced on Wednesday.

Liu Jinsong, director-general of Asian affairs at the Chinese foreign ministry, formally protested against comments by the U.S. and Japan, labeling China's actions in maritime territories, military exercises with Russia, and nuclear arms build-up as 'provocative.'

'China urges Japan to develop an objective and rational understanding of China and to refrain from making unwarranted statements about China's internal affairs,' Liu conveyed to the chief minister at the Japanese embassy in China on Tuesday, according to the official statement.
