iDEX-DIO and AFMS Launch Medical Innovations and Research Advancement Initiative

The MIRA initiative aims to drive innovation and research in developing new medical technologies tailored for the Armed Forces.

On July 30, 2024, in New Delhi, the Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) to launch the Medical Innovations and Research Advancement (MIRA) initiative. The agreement was signed by Shri Anurag Bajpai, Additional Secretary (Defence Production) and CEO of iDEX-DIO, and Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of AFMS.

The MIRA initiative aims to drive innovation and research in developing new medical technologies tailored for the Armed Forces. This effort will be bolstered by the Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC) edition MIRA, which will focus on addressing critical medical challenges faced by military personnel. The partnership seeks to leverage the expertise of both organizations to advance medical technology and improve healthcare outcomes for the Armed Forces.

Shri Anurag Bajpai emphasized that this collaboration underscores the Ministry of Defence’s dedication to integrating innovation into all facets of defense and security. He highlighted that the initiative will help build a comprehensive healthcare system that addresses both current and future needs of the Armed Forces.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh described the MoU as a significant development in the quest to enhance the quality of medical care for military personnel. He expressed optimism that the partnership with iDEX-DIO would lead to substantial progress in medical science and technology by utilizing innovative capabilities and fostering advancements through the initiative.

The MIRA initiative marks a crucial step in advancing military medical technology and enhancing the healthcare capabilities of the Armed Forces.
