The Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied directions to delay court proceedings regarding the scheduling of dates in the Shraddha Walker murder case. This comes after Aaftab Amin Poonawala, the accused, argued that the fast-paced trial was causing him prejudice.
Poonawala's counsel urged the high court to mandate that crucial witnesses be examined only in the presence of the main defense lawyer, providing sufficient time for cross-examination preparation. The lawyer submitted his objections over the trial's speed, citing professional inconveniences.
Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri responded by stating that professional inconvenience cannot justify trial delays. He praised the trial court for scheduling proceedings on ten dates per month despite its workload. The high court clarified that it would not instruct the trial court to adjust its schedule for the defense counsel's convenience.
