On July 26, 2024, the 21st National Good Governance Webinar showcased two innovative initiatives from Karnataka and Bihar, shortlisted by the Expert Committee for the PM’s Award for the year 2022 under the theme ‘Innovation - States.’
Dr. M. V Venkatesh, Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate of Davanagere, Karnataka, presented the Land Resource Inventory (LRI) initiative. This program focuses on scientific soil and water conservation and sustainable farming practices. The LRI aims to enhance soil health, manage water resources efficiently, and promote sustainable agricultural methods.
Ms. Abhilasha Kumari Sharma, Additional CEO of JEEViKA in Bihar, discussed the "Didi Ki Rasoi" initiative. This program, part of JEEViKA (Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project), provides nutritious meals to rural communities through a network of women-led kitchens, addressing food security and community health.
The webinar was chaired by Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG). It was attended by Joint Secretaries and senior officers from the Department, and joined by participants from 474 locations across India, including officials from State/UT Administrative Reforms Departments, District Collectors, and State and District Officers from Water Resources and Food & Public Distribution.
The Prime Minister had directed DARPG to hold such virtual conferences to facilitate the dissemination and replication of award-winning initiatives. Since April 2022, DARPG has conducted one webinar per month, each attended by approximately 1,000 officials from various government departments and training institutes.
These webinars provide updates on the status of institutionalization and sustainability of the showcased initiatives, offering valuable insights into their replication and expansion across different regions. The platform emphasizes the importance of sharing successful practices to enhance governance and public administration.
