Supreme Court Launches Special Lok Adalat to Reduce Case Pendency
Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud announced a special Lok Adalat by the Supreme Court from July 29 to August 3, 2024, to resolve cases amicably and reduce the backlog. The initiative focuses on alternative dispute resolution to speedily settle cases involving issues like matrimonial disputes, property disputes, and labor claims.

The Supreme Court of India has initiated a special Lok Adalat to address the backlog of cases, announced Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Monday. Starting today until Friday, the first seven benches will focus on amicably resolving listed cases.
Chief Justice Chandrachud urged lawyers and citizens with pending cases to participate in this initiative. He highlighted that the special Lok Adalat, set from July 29 to August 3, 2024, is part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Supreme Court.
This Lok Adalat aims to provide an informal, technology-based solution for voluntary and consensual dispute resolution. Cases related to matrimonial disputes, property disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition, compensation, and labor issues will be prioritized for speedy settlement.
