The government has ordered the transfer of two BSF battalions, each consisting of over 2,000 personnel, from Odisha to bolster security in the terrorism-affected Jammu region along the India-Pakistan border, according to official sources.

The decision to rapidly redeploy these units from anti-Naxal operations in Odisha to Jammu follows a surge of terror attacks in the area, sources informed PTI. The BSF units will act as a second line of defense behind the first-tier units along this international border, helping to prevent terrorist infiltration and attacks in the hinterland.

The battalions will be stationed in Samba and near the Jammu-Punjab border, officials said. Security meetings in Delhi and Jammu highlighted the need for increased BSF deployment. Despite initial plans to move these battalions to Chhattisgarh, the current situation in Jammu necessitated their relocation to the region.
