Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has emphasized the urgent need for a separate and stringent law to combat the adulteration of milk and dairy products. He highlighted the state's plans to request the Centre to make food adulteration a non-bailable offence.

Shinde brought this issue to the forefront during a Thursday evening meeting focused on primary school education quality and milk adulteration. He suggested a law stricter than the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders and Dangerous Persons Act (MPDA) needs to be implemented, per a government release.

The Chief Minister directed the Food and Drugs Administration and dairy development departments to initiate joint operations against milk adulteration. He assured that the home department would support these efforts. Shinde stressed that food adulteration is a serious offence impacting children's health and could lead to severe diseases like cancer. Consequently, he urged for stricter actions than those provided under MPDA.
