The Lok Sabha on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to the armed forces personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Kargil war.
Speaker Om Birla commemorated the soldiers' bravery under tough conditions and acknowledged their significant contribution in ensuring the nation's unity.
Birla extended his empathy to the families of those who lost their lives. Over 500 soldiers sacrificed their lives in the conflict.
To honor the departed souls, the House stood in silence for a brief while. On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army declared the successful culmination of 'Operation Vijay', marking the victory in the nearly three-month-long battle in Kargil, Ladakh. This day is commemorated as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'.
