NSA Ajit Doval met his Myanmarese counterpart Admiral Moe Aung and conveyed India's concerns about the impact of Myanmar's ongoing violence and instability on its border areas.
Doval's visit to Naypyidaw was part of a meeting of security chiefs from BIMSTEC member nations, as confirmed by the Indian embassy in Yangon.
Following the coup in February 2021, Myanmar has witnessed a surge in violent protests and intense clashes between resistance forces and the military junta. The resistance has captured several key towns and trading points along its borders with India, China, and Bangladesh.
Doval, leading the Indian delegation at the 4th Annual Meeting of BIMSTEC Security Chiefs, also met with Myanmar's Prime Minister General Min Aung Hlaing. Discussions with Aung focused on security, with a specific emphasis on the ramifications for India's northeastern states.
The escalating conflict, particularly in regions like Rakhine state and near India's northeastern border, raises significant security concerns for New Delhi, especially for states like Manipur and Mizoram.
