Foreign Minister Winston Peters has announced that Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will visit New Zealand from July 29 to 31. This visit underscores the significance of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
“Indonesia plays a crucial role in New Zealand’s security and economic interests as our closest South East Asian neighbour,” Mr. Peters stated from Laos, where he is currently engaging with South East Asian partners.
Minister Peters highlighted that Minister Marsudi’s decade-long tenure has significantly advanced the bilateral relations between the two countries. “Her visit comes at an opportune moment, reflecting our mutual interest in deepening our cooperation,” Peters added.
During her visit, New Zealand and Indonesia are expected to discuss and set ambitious goals for the future of their relationship. The focus will be on enhancing people-to-people connections through education and tourism and exploring opportunities to expand bilateral trade.
Minister Marsudi last visited New Zealand in 2018.
