The Delhi High Court has mandated the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to fence the Yamuna river flood plains after eradicating encroachments, ensuring no future illegal constructions. This order came as the court reviewed a petition about an alleged unauthorized dargah and graveyard near the Signature Bridge.
Acting Chief Justice Manmohan's bench, which previously demanded the elimination of all illegal structures on the riverbank, instructed the DDA to address the petitioner's concerns within six weeks. However, it dismissed the idea of forming a special force to tackle illegal construction, citing potential corruption issues and recommending the use of technology for monitoring.
The court stressed that the Vice Chairman of DDA should guarantee the fenced protection of the Yamuna floodplain to prevent further encroachments. This follows similar directives issued in July and April regarding construction near Shaheen Bagh and waterlogging issues in Delhi, emphasizing the need for the green development and scientific dredging of the riverbanks.
