The U.S. military announced on Wednesday that it had successfully intercepted two Russian and two Chinese military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone. The aircraft stayed within international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign territory, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) confirmed in a statement.

"The Russian and PRC (People's Republic of China) aircraft remained in international airspace and did not intrude into American or Canadian sovereign airspace," NORAD's statement read.

While the aircraft were not considered a threat, NORAD emphasized that it will continue to monitor competitor activities in the region closely to ensure the security of North American airspace.
