The Delhi High Court has issued a directive to remove unauthorized structures in all dairy colonies in the capital and relocate dairies from Bhalswa to Ghogha within four weeks. This decision aims to address the severe issue of cattle feeding on garbage near sanitary landfills.
The court highlighted the inability of statutory authorities like the MCD and Delhi government to act on the matter, leading to unhygienic conditions. The bench noted that while 83 acres of land is available in Ghogha, urgent action is required to shift the dairies from Bhalswa.
Authorities were instructed to restore the original condition of plots to make conditions conducive for cattle as per animal welfare laws. The court also criticized the failure of authorities to provide safe spaces, adequate medical facilities, and grazing grounds for the animals.
