An explosion at a Jose Cuervo tequila plant in central Mexico has tragically killed at least two people and forced the evacuation of workers and tourists. The incident took place in Tequila, the hometown of the spirit, officials reported on Tuesday.
Victor Hugo Roldan, head of emergency services in Jalisco state, informed Reuters that the blast occurred in a 500,000-litre tank at the plant. The ensuing fire was quickly handled by company personnel. However, two other tanks also collapsed.
At least five people are still unaccounted for, an emergency services official said, choosing to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak to the media. A released photo showed a collapsed metal tank with the Cuervo logo. The town of Tequila is a well-known tourist spot about an hour from Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city.
