In a decisive move to curb illegal activities within its ranks, the Goa police issued a circular on Saturday, highlighting concerns over drug and alcohol consumption and gambling on police station premises.

Superintendent of Police (HQ) Nelson Albuquerque, in the circular, directed police inspectors to compile lists of officials engaging in these activities and submit them to their respective superintendents of police.

Alburquerque emphasized the increasing number of personnel addicted to drugs and alcohol, noting the detrimental impact on their physical and mental health. ''Police stations and units have unfortunately become hotspots for substance abuse and gambling,'' the circular stated. The directive, supported by the Director General of Police, mandates monthly surprise inspections and strict action against offenders.
