Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday criticized the Uttar Pradesh government directive mandating eateries on the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names. She labeled the order as an 'attack on the Constitution' and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

Priyanka Gandhi also called for strict punishment for the officials who issued the directive. The controversial order, which originated in Muzaffarnagar, has now been extended across the state. A government spokesperson mentioned that a formal order would be issued soon.

Gandhi's remarks, posted in Hindi on X, emphasized that the Constitution guarantees no discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, or language. She condemned the order as an attempt to create societal division and described it as a crime against the Constitution. Meanwhile, the BJP defended the mandate as beneficial for fasting Hindus seeking pure vegetarian options.
