The Delhi Police is ramping up security ahead of Independence Day, preparing to deploy snipers, spotters, and face recognition (FR) CCTV cameras. An app, 'e-parikshan,' will be used for verification during the event at the Red Fort, police officials announced on Thursday.

The attack on former US President Donald Trump has underscored the importance of snipers this year, said officials. In a security meeting, Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora stressed the need for stringent measures. Snipers with Dragunov SVD rifles, previously utilized during the G20 Summit, will be stationed at strategic locations.

Over 1,000 FR-equipped cameras and a new security app add to the sophisticated measures. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) MK Meena emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken for visitor safety. More than 10,000 security personnel will be deployed around the Red Fort, supported by intelligence agencies and paramilitary forces.
