The Congress party in Madhya Pradesh has alleged that its state unit president, Jitu Patwari's mobile phone was hacked via sophisticated spyware. On Tuesday, a delegation led by Mukesh Nayak, head of the state media department, submitted an official complaint to the Additional Director General (ADG) of the police's cyber cell.

According to the complaint, Patwari received a notification from Apple Inc indicating that a targeted mercenary spyware attack on his iPhone had been detected. Apple informed Patwari that he was specifically targeted due to his identity and role. Patwari emphasized that as a political figure, the hack exacerbates his risk due to his profession and the people associated with him.

The complaint cited the rarity and sophistication of such mercenary spyware attacks, likening them to the infamous Pegasus spyware. The ADG (law and order) Jaideep Prasad stated that the cyber cell is examining the complaint and would take further action upon verification.
