Tragic Bus Accident Claims Lives in the Peruvian Andes
A bus accident in the Peruvian Andes mountains led to the deaths of at least 20 individuals. The incident occurred on the Los Libertadores highway in the Ayacucho region, highlighting the high frequency of such accidents on Peru's mountainous roads.
A bus accident in the Peruvian Andes mountains resulted in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives on Tuesday, according to a police colonel speaking on local radio outlet RPP.
Jhonny Rolando Valderrama, the head of a highway protection division, informed RPP that the crash took place on the Los Libertadores highway in the Ayacucho region, situated in the south-central Andes. Such deadly bus accidents are not uncommon on Peru's hazardous mountainous roads.
This incident follows a series of similar tragedies. In April, at least 25 people died when a bus plunged into a river in the northern Cajamarca region, while last September, a similar accident in the Anco region claimed 24 lives.
