The Government is advancing recommendations from the Tourism Data Leadership Group by establishing a Tourism Data Partnership Fund, announced Tourism and Hospitality Minister Matt Doocey.

"The Tourism Data Partnership Fund, financed through the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL), will offer up to $400,000 in co-funded grants for initiatives within the tourism and hospitality industry that aim to provide new data and insights for the sector," Mr. Doocey stated.

This fund marks the beginning of a series of initiatives designed to enhance the tourism data system. It will support the growth of the tourism sector, which is funded through the IVL with a total allocation of $5 million.

"Creating a strong economy is a primary focus for this Government over the next three years. As our second-largest export earner, the tourism and hospitality sector plays a crucial role. High-quality tourism data and insights are essential for the sector to effectively plan for anticipated growth," Mr. Doocey emphasized.

By addressing foundational data gaps and establishing stable oversight, the Government aims to provide consistent, reliable, and trusted tourism data. This initiative is expected to yield long-term value gains and sustainability, benefiting all New Zealanders.

"This investment aligns with the Government’s priorities to increase the value of international tourism and hospitality, support regional tourism and hospitality growth, simplify business operations within the sector, and support the workforce that drives it," Mr. Doocey concluded.
