A Pakistani court on Saturday acquitted jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the un-Islamic marriage case, marking a significant development for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party founder.

Imran Khan, along with his wife, was convicted on February 3, just days before the general elections, based on a complaint from Bushra Bibi's ex-husband, Khawar Fareed Maneka. Maneka alleged that the couple married during Bushra Bibi's Iddat period, which is against Islamic law.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka delivered the acquittal verdict on Saturday afternoon. The judge stated that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi should be released immediately if they are not wanted in any other case. The acquittal follows the suspension of Khan's Toshakhana corruption case sentence and his clearance in the cipher case.
