In a decisive move to combat crime, Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, has mandated the immediate filing of FIRs, even for minor offenses such as snatching and theft. This directive came during a state-level review meeting held via video conference, aimed at evaluating the performance of police districts and pushing forward the ongoing battle against organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.

Yadav emphasized the importance of free registration of FIRs across all districts to maintain law and order. He also urged senior officers to prioritize making arrests in serious crimes, expedite court proceedings, and hold weekly reviews of undertrial cases to enhance the conviction rate.

The meeting saw participation from top officials, including Special DGPs and Commissioners of Police, who collectively underscored the ongoing efforts to apprehend drug suppliers and peddlers, forming Village Level Defence Committees, and sustaining follow-ups to catch major criminals. Yadav lauded performing districts and called on underperforming ones to improve their efforts in crime prevention and investigation quality.
