Tragedy in Alameda: Family Mass Shooting Leaves Four Dead

A man from California has been detained after allegedly killing his wife, their young son, and his wife's parents in Alameda. Another child is critically wounded. The case marks the 21st mass killing in the US this year. Authorities are still investigating the motive.

A California man is in custody after fatally shooting his wife, their young son, and his wife's parents, the Alameda Police Department reported Thursday.

A second young son was also shot and is currently in critical condition at the hospital, according to a police statement.

Alameda city police did not release the suspect's name or provide a motive, noting that multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.

Authorities were alerted by an individual who reported their neighbor had been shot at a home on Kitty Hawk Road in Alameda Wednesday night. Responding officers discovered the victims, some mortally wounded by gunshots.

"Officers remain at the scene collecting evidence and will share more information about this horrific loss of life when it is available," said the police.

Police have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.

This incident marks at least the 21st mass killing in the US this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.
