In a significant breakthrough, Jharkhand's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended an individual in Hyderabad linked to a high-profile international cybercrime operation, an officer disclosed on Tuesday.

The arrest follows a complaint filed by a resident of Ranchi on May 19, alleging involvement in a fraudulent scheme worth Rs 1.4 crores.

Acting swiftly, the CID, in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C) and Telangana Police, arrested the primary suspect from the Rangareddy area of Hyderabad. The suspect had been operating mule bank accounts across India, facilitating illegal fund transfers, as per an official CID release.

Identified as Makkireddy Sujeeth Kumar, aged 40, and hailing from the Saroor Nagar police station area in Hyderabad, the accused was remanded in custody on Monday following a transit remand from Hyderabad.

During the meticulous investigation, financial trails and IP addresses linked to the fraudulent bank accounts were traced, culminating in the discovery of servers located in Dubai. The probe revealed a network of mule accounts established across various states to enable fund transfers.

Further investigation exposed Kumar's collaboration with international associates who targeted victims through social media ads, luring them with phishing URLs of fake investment websites that promised high returns. The victims were subsequently persuaded to deposit funds into different bank accounts.
