The Railway Police station in Gaya, Bihar, made history by registering the first FIR under the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) on Monday, according to an official statement.

The case, involving theft against property, was filed against Rajesh Paswan and Mohit Kumar under Sections 313 and 317 (5) of the BNS at precisely 11.15 am.

This significant event inaugurated the application of three new criminal laws—BNS, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—which have replaced the outdated Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, and Code of Criminal Procedure.

Sanjay Singh, Additional Director General (Law and Order), stated that extensive preparations had been undertaken to facilitate the effective implementation of these new laws across Bihar. "The state police are fully equipped with the necessary technology, capacity building, and awareness initiatives to ensure a smooth transition," he said.

Singh further noted that all 1,300-plus police stations in the state conducted awareness programs on Monday, and that officers underwent extensive training sessions. "Comprehensive booklets and specialized apps developed by the Bureau of Police Research and Development have been provided to assist in understanding the differences between the old and the new laws," he mentioned.

Additionally, the integration and testing of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) have been completed. "All police stations in the state are now connected to the CCTNS, and all FIRs will be registered and uploaded online immediately," Singh confirmed.
