An 18-year-old youth from Prayagraj, who consumed insecticide along with his mother and sister, died in a hospital, police reported on Monday.

While his mother Suman Tiwari (42) and sister Komal (22) died shortly after ingesting insecticide on Sunday morning, the boy, Golu, was undergoing treatment before succumbing.

Additional Superintendent of Police Tejveer Singh stated that Suman, Komal, and Golu took sulphas tablets at their home. Despite being rushed to a hospital, the mother and sister could not be saved. Golu succumbed in Swarup Rani Hospital on Monday.

The deceased's body has been sent for post-mortem. A case of abetment of suicide has been filed against Suman's mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Suman's mentally challenged husband, Sunil Tiwari, and the family were under financial strain, having borrowed Rs 2.50 lakh. Pressure from creditors and an ongoing family property dispute led to the tragic event.

A case has been registered against Suman's mother-in-law Maharaji Devi and sister-in-law Saroj Devi under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC, following a complaint by Suman's brother Ashok Kumar.
