In a heartbreaking twist to what was supposed to be a joyous family outing, a woman and two girls drowned at a waterfall near Pune's Bhushi Dam on Sunday. Tragedy struck as the group, including two children who remain missing, was swept away by sudden torrents of water amid heavy rainfall.
16-17 family members from Pune's Hadapsar area had ventured to the scenic Lonavala spot despite adverse weather conditions. 'What began as a picnic outing turned fatal when the water level suddenly rose,' explained Inspector Suhas Jagtap of the Lonavala police station. Emergency services rescued one girl while launching a recovery mission for the deceased.
The victims were identified as Shahista Liaqat Ansari, Amima Adil Ansari, and Umera Adil Ansari. Search teams, including the Navy, continued efforts to locate missing siblings Adnan Sabhahat Ansari and Mariya Aqil Ansari. Authorities urge the public to avoid unfamiliar areas, especially with the expected swell of visitors during the ongoing monsoon season.
