A woman and her two nieces — aged seven and 10 — were tragically killed after being run over by a speeding vehicle, allegedly driven by Jakhnidhar's block development officer, in Tehri's Bourari area, confirmed the police on Tuesday.
Reena Negi (36), along with her nieces Anvita Negi (7) and Agrima Negi (10), were taking an evening walk on the Palika Karyalaya Road around 7 pm on Monday when the vehicle driven by Jakhnidhar BDO DP Chamoli struck them, reported Tehri's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) JR Joshi. Chamoli has since been arrested.
Reena Negi died instantly, and the girls were declared dead upon arrival at the district hospital. Two additional persons were injured in the accident and are currently under medical care, stated Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Amit Rai.
