Two men were arrested in Bhopal on Monday in connection with the murder of Indore-based BJYM leader Monu Kalyane, according to police.

Police recovered a country-made pistol and a motorcycle from the suspects, Arjun Pathrod and Piyush Pathrod. They believe old enmity was the motive behind the murder, which occurred on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Kalyane, 35, the Indore city vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was shot dead in the MG Road police station area while preparing for the 'saffron yatra' event on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Kumar Pande stated that Arjun Pathrod, one of the suspects, had illegally acquired the weapon from Khargone.

Kalyane was widely regarded as a close ally of state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and was working to expand his political influence through various events.

Initial investigations indicate that Arjun Pathrod opened fire at Kalyane, driven by longstanding enmity. The suspects are neighbors of the victim. Further interrogation is ongoing to uncover if there were other accomplices involved in the murder conspiracy.
