In a significant move against organized crime in the national capital, the Delhi Police's Special Cell has apprehended 16 suspected criminals in various operations over the past two weeks, according to an official statement on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik announced that the crackdown followed a noticeable increase in gang-related activities, resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals, including a woman, from different gangs.
Authorities confiscated ten pistols and 56 live rounds from the suspects, who are allegedly part of gangs with connections abroad. The suspects were tracked using advanced surveillance techniques to uncover their communication methods.
The surveillance indicated that gang leaders overseas or incarcerated within different jails are enlisting juveniles and youngsters with minimal or no prior criminal records to avoid detection, Kaushik revealed.
Social media and music glorifying gangster culture are being used to attract these young individuals, leading them to commit violent acts before being abandoned by the gangs, he added.
