A 32-year-old undertrial, Amit Bhagat, was discovered hanging inside a prison in Bihar's Araria district, informed officials on Saturday.

The incident has led to the suspension of warder Lalan Mandal. Bhagat, implicated in a narcotics case, had been incarcerated since May 15, explained Jail Superintendent Jawahar Lal Prabhakar.

According to Prabhakar, Bhagat's body was found hanging from the window grille of his cell, with a traditional cotton towel (gamchha) around his neck. Bhagat's suicide note revealed he faced immense mental stress due to significant debts.

The tragic event occurred while other inmates participated in a yoga camp for International Yoga Day. As there appeared to be a lapse on Mandal's part, he was suspended, and action is also recommended against Home Guard jawan Chandeshwar Mehta, another prison staff member, Prabhakar added.

Superintendent of Police Ram Pukar Singh stated that a comprehensive investigation would follow the post-mortem examination report.
