Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday informed the state assembly that the state police are actively investigating complaints alleging widespread organ trafficking in Kerala, with multiple arrests already made.

Responding to a question regarding organ trafficking, Vijayan announced that three individuals have been arrested in connection to a prominent case registered at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district.

Vijayan detailed that one complaint was lodged by a Malappuram resident accusing two private hospitals in Ernakulam of being involved with an international organ trading mafia. Another complaint relates to illegal organ transplants in Thiruvananthapuram. The principal suspect, Madhu Jayakumar, is currently at large, and a Blue Corner notice has been issued through Interpol.

A team of 13 police officers is rigorously investigating the claims. Concurrently, the police are also dedicatedly probing the illegal organ transplant allegations from Thiruvananthapuram, reiterated Vijayan.

The Kerala State Commission for Women recently called for a detailed report from the state police following media reports that highlighted the exploitation of economically vulnerable women by organ trafficking agents.
